THE NON DRUG MUSCULOSKELETAL APPROACH

More that 75% of sufferers could be relieved using a simple and gentle, but carefully targeted, manipulation of the lower back.

This technique was developed by a British doctor who had trained as an Osteopath at the London College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He realised that a mechanical disturbance at the lowermost level of the spine led to spinal irritability at that level. This in turn is associated with muscle tensions and imbalances around the spine and pelvis. The body cannot find a position of relaxation, and is constantly hunting for a position of ease – hence the restless legs. The muscle tension sets up inappropriate signals which are then sent through the spinal cord to the brain, and these faulty signals lead to chemical changes in the brain. These chemical changes in the brain are what most doctors focus on and try to treat with drugs.

The muscle tension can be corrected, and these inappropriate signals switched off, simply and painlessly over a few sessions, providing lasting relief for the majority of sufferers. A small pilot study  showed that 75% of patients lost their restless legs in 4 sessions. A much larger trial and further research are now underway at the London College of Osteopathic Medicine in London.
